The Game Show
Intranet-based training with HCI for
Dell Computer Corp.
Designed, animated and programmed in Flash.
The Game Show was designed as an engaging way to review students' knowledge of course material. For flexibility, the category headings, questions, answers, and correct choice, are kept in a separate data file that is read by the Flash application. For easy maintenance, a standalone companion application was written in Visual Basic to provide a standard Windows dialog-box interface to the data rather than the cumbersome URL-encoded format that Flash uses. The training application that incorporates this game makes extensive use of Microsoft Agent technology. The Game Show communicates with the agents through JavaScript in order to pass along status information such as current score, category completion, etc. Agents can then interact appropriately with the student based on how the game is proceeding.
Sample questions and answers are based on information accurate at the time of the game's development. This information was publicly available through www.dell.com, which now contains current product information. Any resemblance of The Game Show to other games is coincidental.
